APEX Automation and Robotics to supply the largest robot in Australia

Apex Automation and Robotics is a Sydney-based company that specialises in the design and manufacture of factory automation machines and robotic systems. These systems spread over a wide range of industries including plastics, foods, metal manufacturing and consumer products.

Last week, a leading steel manufacturer has awarded Apex Automation and Robotics a contract to supply a robotic system to handle parts weighing up to 1200kg. The system will use a Kuka KR 1000 1300 Titan robot that weighs around 5 tonnes and can handle up to 1300kg with the wrist down, which makes it the largest robotic system in Australia, and one of the largest in the world.

After the concept was developed by our engineering team, the system was simulated using Kuka.Sim software to establish various parameters and limitations.

The robotic head will have a laser measuring system that finds the actual position of the parts which may be different to the theoretical position. It also monitors the picking and placing cycles, virtually giving the robot a “pair of eyes”.

Apex Automation and Robotics is committed to using the latest available technologies to deliver a new generation of smart and powerful robotic systems to their customers.
